      MK Poraz Sues IBA Over Report of Corruption

Poraz (Shinui) has filed a half-million shekel libel suit against the
Israel Broadcasting Authority and television correspondent Ayala
Hasson. According to the suit, Hasson claimed that a recording of Poraz
made by two Shinui activist rivals revealed that the senior MK
attempted to bribe them into silence with offers of state largesse.
Poraz claimed the interpretation given the recording by the reporter
was twisted and falsely incriminating.

      Two Shinui party activists in question, Gabi Belger and Gadi
Ben-Shmuel, stand behind a party newspaper that regularly targets
Poraz. The two tape-recorded Poraz without his knowledge when they met
with him, documenting his offer to "cooperate" and arrange "trips
abroad" for them. Poraz said that his casual conversation with the two
was an off-the-cuff comment, nothing more, and it is being taken out of
context.
